TThe Broadway House Chambers Criminal Law Team is long established and has continued to grow in size in recent years. Its client base has also widened both numerically & geographically. It now comprises of Queen’s Counsel and over 25 juniors who work either partially or wholly in crime and is the largest practice team in Chambers.

The Team has huge experience in dealing with serious crime. Individual members have specialisms in a number of areas including sexually related crimes, large-scale drug operations, mentally disordered defendants, frauds and hearings under the Proceeds of Crime Act.

The Team also deals with all the more usual areas of crime and has a well earned reputation for defence and prosecution advocacy. The Team has a size and depth which allows it to provide an excellent service and it prides itself on the professional and effective advocacy it provides across the North of England.

The Team also acts in related areas such as trading standards, benefit fraud and licensing.

The Broadway House Criminal Law Team continues to build on its experience by periodically holding seminars and issuing information bulletins on current topics of interest in relevant areas of law. Examples of recent topics covered include:

  • Arguing abuse of process at summary trial
  • Representing clients with mental disorder or handicap
  • Discretionary disqualification or totting up
  • Special measures directions for vulnerable or intimidated witnesses

These are intended to be low key events which are of practical day to day benefit to our solicitor clients.
