Year of call

Although Broadway House Chambers has always prided itself on the quality of its family practitioners, with the arrival of 7 new members, formally of another Leeds Chambers, in 2007 we can now claim to have the most experienced and strongest Family Team in the North of England. The Family Team is rightly regarded by Broadway House Chambers as one of the jewels in its Crown.

We have over 20 barristers practising in family law and related disciplines providing advice and representation on all aspects of the jurisdiction from high net worth ancillary relief to public law children’s work and international abduction. One of Chambers’ great strengths is in the way that younger less experienced tenants are able to learn from the expertise of others by discussing their cases with them.

No less than 6 members of the Family Team are named by “Chambers” Bar Directory 2008 as leading practitioners in the field. These members are specifically mentioned below.
The Team is led by
Martin Wood “at present on really top form ....wins points for preparation, cross-examination and his calm, unflappable nature” and Paul Isaacsvery, very bright, well experienced and the best on his feet .... is one of the most sought-after ancillary relief juniors” who each have over 30 years experience at the Bar and who are both named in “Chambers” top rank. Other members include: Raphael Cohen “highly regarded.. ..also a commercial litigator.....measured and careful with a really comfortable relationship with clients.” Gordon Shelton “always well prepared.....He pitches his case well in court......gives clients confidence. He combines private and public law cases involving children with matrimonial finance matters"; Robert Cole, “ a former accountant with a good brain and excellent preparation” ....also takes on severe child care cases involving disputed medical evidence.”; and Nick Power (at the junior end) “ represents a good catch for the set. A former solicitor, he has an appetite for the work and really knows his stuff."

However, whether mentioned by “Chambers” or not, all our family practitioners are highly regarded by their professional peers and are specialists in their respective fields. Broadway House expects the highest standards from its advocates and gets them.

Rob Slade and Kelly Handforth, our family clerks, will be able to advise any professional client as to the main areas of work, availability and charging rates of all practitioners.

In December 2007 we opened our new Leeds premises at 25 Park Square. This modernised and air conditioned accommodation with its excellent conference facilities is already proving very popular with many “family” clients who find it more convenient than going to Bradford.
