LL.B (Hons)

In the Family Law arena Ian has an in-depth knowledge of matrimonial and cohabitation law. He regularly represents clients in complicated ancillary relief proceedings as well as in cases brought under the Trusts of Land and Appointment of Trustees Act 1996. Ian’s practice is focused on how the appropriate provision for family members after divorce or separation can be made, with particular emphasis on orders involving transfers of land, trusts relating to land, business assets and third parties.
Ian also has a strong practice in Children Act 1989 proceedings, both in the private law and public law spheres. In the field of public law he acts on behalf of individual and Local Authority clients in highly complex cases where allegations of serious violence and sexual abuse have been raised. On the private law side he acts for parents in difficult disputes, often involving international elements including where one parent is seeking to remove children from theUKpermanently.
Ian Miller has been repeatedly recommended in the Legal 500 directory since 2007 for his work in Family Law, and he is often called upon to deliver lectures and seminars to fellow practitioners.
Alongside his family work, Ian Miller is also a member of Broadway House’s Civil Law and Employment Law teams.
Ian has practiced at the Civil Law bar for ten years and is often the barrister of choice for solicitors in such matters. His civil practice is broad but has a distinctly commercial flavour, with Ian regularly receiving instructions in litigation relating to the ownership of land (commercial property but also matters heard in the Lands Tribunal), equitable relief and the law of trusts, company and partnership law, and inter-company disputes involving construction and the sale and supply of goods. His practice is characterised by a combination of good business nous and sound legal judgment.
In Employment Law Ian acts for and advises clients, principally in unfair dismissal and discrimination cases but also in all the other areas Broadway House’s Employment Law team provide services. Known for his combative style of advocacy, Ian can be relied upon to represent his client's interests with vigour.
