John was formerly a university lecturer in law who went on to establish his practice at the bar in 1973. Currently he has a varied practice encompassing both prosecution and defence work and all types of criminal offences. John played a central role in the proceedings which arose out of the Bradford Riots of 2001 and he is regularly instructed in cases of the worst nature, from homicide (including murder, manslaughter and death by dangerous driving) through to rape and other serious sexual offences, and drug trafficking. In addition, he is considered an expert in serious fraud and can be relied upon as experienced counsel in such cases as well as those involving confiscation proceedings under the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002.
