Jayne Beckett Appears for the Prosecution Following Fatal Ilkley Collision That Killed Cyclist
Jayne Beckett, instructed by the Crown Prosecution Service, appeared for the prosecution in proceedings that resulted in Sohail Jahangir being sentenced to 10 years and five months’ imprisonment.
Jahangir had struck a cyclist while attempting to overtake another vehicle on a rural road in Ilkley. He was convicted of causing death by dangerous driving along with dangerous driving and dealing in Class A drugs which were committed whist on bail with the first offence.
The victim, Adrian Stocks, was training for a One in a Million charity event when the collision occurred. As Mr Stocks was turning onto a bridge, a vehicle ahead slowed to allow him to complete the manoeuvre. Jahangir, however, overtook the slowing vehicle and collided with Mr Stocks, causing fatal brain injuries from which he died at the scene.
