Michelle Colborne KC and Gerald Hendron appear on behalf of two respondents in the Supreme Court in the case of R v Sheikh and others (Respondents)

Alex will be known as District Judge Modgill. He was called to the Bar (Lincoln’s Inn) in 2002. He was appointed as a Deputy District Judge in 2021.

The Lady Chief Justice has deployed him to the North Eastern Circuit, based at Sheffield Combined Court Centre, with effect from 3 August 2026.

Michelle Colborne KC, leading Laura McBride and Ella Embleton prosecuted this harrowing case related to the abuse of children, entrusted into the care of Malcolm Philips and Linda Brunning, at Skircoat Lodge Children’s Home, between the mid 1970’s and early 1990.

Adam had successfully represented the Respondent at a 5-day Final Hearing in Glasgow in July 2025, following which the Claimant appealed. The appeal was lodged 2 days late. The Appellant made an application for an extension of time which was rejected by the Registrar. He appealed further. Adam represented the Respondent before Lord Fairley, the President of the EAT. 

Jayne Beckett, instructed by the Crown Prosecution Service, secured a guilty verdict resulting in a six-year sentence and life on the Sex Offenders Register for David Sharp at Leeds Crown Court.

Stephen Wood KC and Camille Morland prosecuted a trial before the Recorder of Sheffield, who imposed sentences exceeding 30 years for 4 men involved in a shooting during an attempted robbery of a cannabis factory.

Clare Walsh and Paul Canfield have successfully secured acquittals for father and son co‑defendants following a five‑day trial at Bradford Crown Court last week.

Syam's client was acquitted by the jury in under an hour at Canterbury Crown Court.

The Prosecution offered no evidence due to the disclosure issues that had been highlighted.

Instructed by the Defendant on a credit hire Fast Track trial, Camilla succeeded in submissions to disallow optional extras, and lowering the period of vehicle hire and rate. As a result, the Claimant’s losses awarded were reduced by 87.9% from the pleaded case.

 Lydia Pearce, instructed by the Crown Prosecution Service, secured guilty verdicts on all 4 counts on the indictment against Mohammed Mobasher at Bradford Crown Court. 

Adam Willoughby and Danny Smith are instructed to represent the respondent before the Employment Appeal Tribunal (EAT) in a potentially landmark employment law case. The appeal raises two significant legal issues with wide-ranging implications for UK employment law.

Michelle Colborne KC and Abigail Langford were instructed to defend Neil Trennan, who appeared before Sheffield Crown Court on the 25^th February 2026, for sentence.

The jury found that Phillips had sexually abused six children between 1976 and 1994. Linda Brunning stood trial and was convicted of indecent assault against one child and assisting Phillips in the abuse of another during the 1980s and 1990s.

Stephen Wood KC and Camille Morland secured the convictions of four men for offences of conspiracy to murder and conspiracy to possess a firearm with intent to endanger life.
